Hello Jean,

For the city of Hannover, it is

Bistumsarchiv Hildesheim, Pfaffenstieg 1 a, 31134 Hildesheim

http://www.bistum-hildesheim.de/kultur/archiv/html

that covers all of the area of the former kingdom of Hannover,
they have the original records plus microfiches that can be read there in Hildesheim, about 30 miles south of Hannover city

if, however, it should be one of the Hannover areas west of the river Weser,

then you would need to contact the Dioezesanarchiv Osnabrueck, Grosse Domsfreiheit 10, 49074 Osnabrueck, 011-49-541-318-418,
fax 01149-541-318-425

they have microfiches to be read in Osnabrueck on almost any
Wednesday and Thursday if you have applied in time for a microfiche-reader-place, opening hours are 8:30 - 12:30 and 13:30 through 16:00 h

Can anyone tell me how I can learn about what life was like in the area
known as Emsland, specifically the area around Gross Hesepe and Twist, from
about 1750 to about 1850?

Thank you

Hello,
I am also interested in this topic. You probably are aware of this
website: http://www.emslanders.com/
There are some links to other websites, mostly in German.

Hello Bob Rackers and Barbara Stewart,
found some book-titles, which go to that theme. Unfortunately, I haven`t red
them, nor do I know in which library one will find them. But with the book-title
its one step more to the aim.

- Bechtluft, Die Historie vom Twist, Meppen 1979
- Kottmann, Der Strukturwandel im Kulturlandschaftsbild des Emslandes, Diss. Kln
  1963
- Sternberg, Die wirtschaftliche und soziale Entwicklung ausgewhlter Neudrfer
  des Emslandes, Diss Mnster 1962
Numerous treatises should also be in the:
- Jahrbcher des Emslndischen Heimatbundes, Jahrgang 1 -34
I took this titles from:
- Franke, Werner: Drfer im Emsland. Siedlungstrukturen in Niedersachsen. Eine
Information des Niedersschsischen Sozialminister, o.J. (ca. 1982), 124 S.

Of course there may be some newer piece of work, what is not always a garanty for
better quality. As there are two Diss., what means Dissertation, there is a good
chance that one piece had gone to the Library of Congress in Washington and can
perhaps be ordered by some university library help in the USA. Just an idea.
Best wishes Hans Peter Albers

Thank you.
