Dear Hannover Listers,
In my search for HAMILTONs from Hannover, I have come across this:-
The 91st Argyllshire Highlanders spent a very short period in Germany
between
1805 and 1806. The regimental digest for the period reads:
Dec 31-1805 Disembarked in Germany, 508 strong.
Jan 3-1806 At Beverstadt
Jan 9-1806 At Hanbergen
Jan 27-29 Re-embarked and returned to Britain
So ended their very brief spell in Germany.
In January the individual companies were stationed at:
Frestilinburg, Alteveste, Kereweste, Wollinzst, Wellen, Afrel, Helsdorf,
Beverstadt, Heerstedte, Wester Beverstadt.
As this regiment was only there for a month, it is very unlikely that
this trip led to the birth of my great great grandfather, George
HAMILTON, there c 1840. I have however enclosed the above details in
case anyone else is interested. Could someone tell me whether the
places in which the companies were stationed would be difficult to
obtain marriage and birth details for?
Yours sincerely,
Jan Perry (Adelaide)
