Josie in Australia wrote" Can anyone help me I am looking for Christian Johann GOESCH,by his Naturalization papers dated I think 1853.it says that he was a native of Schwerin from the village Rethschow,Mecklenburg,Germany. Can any one help me trace his parents etc.also says he was 31 years old and a Farmer, and had been in Australia for 7 years."
First and foremost, there is no town called "Rethschow" in the Germany of today, nor was there one in the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin of the 1850's. The proper spelling is RETSCHOW, a town 17 Km west of the City of Rostock, near Bad-Doberan.
