GLINKEMANN/BAUMKOETTERin Versmold

Hi!

I'm just beginning to research my great-grandparent's German origins.
I don't speak German but have form letters to use.

I've traced my great granparents, Frederick Ferdinand GLINKEMANN and
Margrethe Luise BAUMKOETTER to Versmold through Margrethe's record in
the Hamburg Passenger List Index and a christening record for one of
their daughters in the IGI. The christening record is from
Evangelishe, Versmold, Westfalen, Preussen in 1866. Margrethe came
to the US in 1869. I haven't found Frederick's passenger record.

Is it better to write first to the church since I have this info or
should I write first to the standesamt? Or should I try both at the
same time?

The name GLINKEMANN became GLINKERMAN in the US and
I have only seen it here among their direct descendants. Is it
familiar to anyone else?

Thanks!
Karen Jordan
