FUNK, BECK, BRUSSE - Minden, Menninghuffen, Herford

It has been a while since I have posted to the list and thought I would ask
if anyone might be working on these families from this part of Westfalen??
Would really like to share information and would welcome any possible hints
on the line.

Evangelical Church of Birmingham, "Electronic," Selected membership lists
from the German Evangelical Church of Birmingham - now Birmingham United
Church of ChristTaken from: Microfilm 77:30 b Pt 1 found at the AIS in 1990
which I have recently transcribed. AIS is now located in Pitt's Archives
Service Center (ASC) at 400 N. Lexington Ave, which is about 2 blocks to the
left off Penn Avenue in Point Breeze, on your way from East Liberty towards
Wilkinsburg; very definitely in the East End of Pgh.At that time, I copied
selected pages of interest to me. I do not have a complete copy of all pages
on the microfilm. I wish I did. I thought some of these lists would be
helpful to others in their research. The lists are as follows:a) Pastor
Gustav Lorch prepared a list of early church members when he prepared his
booklet commemorating the church's 50th anniversary in 1896.b) His booklet
also contained a list of all members in good standing as of 1896.c) I also
copied 2 pages of signatures which I have tried to decipher (no date
indicated on the copy but my notes indicated they may be "early members")d)
In addition, there were several typewritten lists contained on this
microfilm. I have no idea who compiled these lists or when. I would use this
lists (including my transcriptions) with caution as they were translated
from German script and may have errors. I would always refer to the original
microfilmed copy at AIS for any needed clarification. These lists also
contain sporadic instances of anglicized spellings for some names (ie.
"Jakob" to "Jacob," "Johann" to "John," etc.)In addition, there is quite a
bit of duplication in these lists. I have included all entries, as written,
so no names would be left out. I hope you will find these transcriptions
helpful. Transcribed May 2001 by Ruth Creech dcreech1@nc.rr.com .

36. e-mail of Sally Stamm Sauffer, 16 Jan 2001, Dear Ms. Funk and Mr. Fleck,
I am just beginning to explore the genealogy of my father's family, and was
very excited to discover your postings concerning the Funk family of
Pittsburgh in a beginning internet genealogy class. Bernard Funk and
Charlotte Maria Homann Funk of the South Side in Pittsburgh were my
great-grandparents. Two of their four children survived to adulthood-- my
dear great-uncle, Otto Bernard Gustav Funk, who was born May 17, 1885, and
died November 25, 1963, and my grandmother, Clara Dorothea Funk Stamm, who
was born June 25, 1888, and died September 16, 1982. Clara married Albert
Frederick Stamm in May 1913 and was widowed in May 1917, four months before
my father, William Albert Stamm, was born on September 4, 1917. I recall
from long talks with my grandmother (Clara) that Charlotte Homann Funk was
born February 10, 1863, in Pittsburgh, and died February 10, 1933, her
seventieth birthday. Charlotte had two maiden sisters, Emma and Dora Homann,
who were born and died in Pittsburgh. (A number of siblings died in
childhood.) I seem to recall that the Homanns owned an ice cream parlor on
the South Side. Charlotte's mother was Dorothea Manckedinck (spelling??),
who immigrated to the Pittsburgh area from Minden, Germany. I know that
Charlotte, Clara, Otto, my father, and my sister Janet Stamm DalLago are
buried in the same plot at South Side Cemetery, and the Homann family has a
mausoleum there. I know very little about the Funk side of the family, and
was quite interested to learn that Bernard Funk had a half-brother August
who served in the Civil War. I would be most interested in sharing my
information concerning the Homanns and Stamms with you and in learning as
much as possible from you concerning the Funks and other descendants,
especially any information you may have concerning their roots in Germany. I
look forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely, Sally Stamm Stauffer.
