Hello Adele,
I was hoping someone from Germany would answer the question about
the meaning of Ober/Nieder in the names of some towns. Literally, those
words mean "higher and lower". Ober is to the north and Nieder to the
south. I've seen it when there is a river running through it. The map does
show a river in Scheden.
The church records for Oberscheden are held by another small town
nearby, called Dankelshausen. You could write to the church there. This is
a page regarding the churches in the Scheden area:
http://www.scheden.de/html/body_kirche.html
Too bad there isn't an email address.
You found the birthplace about Sophie Pagel in Oberscheden. The only
helpful thing I could find is to run a search on this page with Pagel and
Oberscheden and you will find a reference to the Pagels in Oberscheden:
http://meta.genealogy.net/metasuche/index.jsp
Click on that to see the record. There is a person listed who placed that
information there : Michael.Hedtke@drv-bund.de He may know of the Fischers
in the same area. Write to him and see if he can be helpful in any way.
Good luck,
Barbara
