Elze i. Hann. -- Peter-Paul Church

Prior to 1857, Julius Ludwig Heinrich Lillie came to the United States from
Hannover. I have postcards from his nephew in Germany dated 1908 that show the
high street of Elze. On one, he marks their parish church, Peter Paul Church
and indicates the house in which Julius was born.

I went to Mapquest to locate Elze, but discovered that there are two villages
by that name near Hannover. Can anyone tell me which one has a Peter Paul
Church?

Hello Carol,

      I did a Google search for "kirche elze" and I got this website:

http://www.evlka.de/sprengel/hildesheim/westphal.html

On that page is reference to Peter-and-Paul church in Elze with reference to
Coppenbrugge, so I would presume that is the Elze you are looking for. It
is south of Hannover, west of Hildesheim and east of Coppenbrugge.

I could be wrong, but that seems logical to me. By the way, the LDS have
some church records for Elze (Kreis Gronau) on microfilm.
