Hi Doreen:
I am not sure I understand the comings and goings of the Dietrich
family between Germany and England. 1. Did Oscar and Eliza emmigrate
to England from Germany? Possibly the late 1860's? 2. Did all 4
return to Germany after 1874? 3. Is your search concerning their
location after they returned to Germany?
I know I will receive some corrections for my following comment. Did
they come from or return to the City of Hannover or the Kingdom of
Hannover? The reason I ask this question is, even though the Kingdom
of Hannover no longer existed after the dates you mentioned,
refferences to it have continued, even up to the present day. This is
even more important if they left Germany, went to England in the
1860's, and returned to Germany at a later date. They may well have
returned to their home town, which may have been in the KOH or the
City.
Have you tried familysearch.org?
There are others on this list who are very familiar with the records in
Hannover.
Good luck;
Gale
Yes, Oscar & Eliza emigrated to Germany, Oscar returning after a number of years. The whole family left here after 1874.
He first arrived in England in c1866 when he married Eliza Jane Lee. Oscar was born in Darmstadt but on their return it
is 99% certain they went straight to The City of Hannover.
I have looked at Family Search.org and maybe they could be located on any one of a very large number of films. However,
it is probably only likely if Oscar & Eliza had further children, but it is only a faint possibility as none of the other children
were baptized/christened. The children would have gone to school/Uni in Hannover, one of them became a Sculpter and
became a maker of high class reproduction furniture having studied under a Professor Dofmeir (not sure of the spelling in
Hannover before returning here, alone, in 1894.
When did the DIETRICH family come to Hannover? Where was Oscar Charles DIETRICH born and when? And what about his wife? What do you know about their life in Hannover?
Have you tried writing to the Standesamt Hannover (snail mail or e-mail)?
Yes I have had contact with the Standesamt Hannover who sent me a list of their prices ... it would be rather
costly, that would have to be a last resort !
The exact date of their arrival in Hannover is a little vague but they ceased to feature on English records after
1874 when Clarice Anna Dietrich was born.
Oscar Charles Dietrich was born in Potsdam in 1845. His wife - Eliza Jane Lee born in Clerkenwell, London in 1849.
Only evidence I have of their being in Hannover was a visit of Oscar's sister Anna Louise Bacon in 1886. During
her visit she had a child, I assume in Oscar's house, and his name is mentioned on the Birth Certificate. The Birth
Certificate was obtained from a descendant who lives in New Zealand. One of Oscar's sons - Bertram Oscar Dietrich,
mentions Hannover in a 1929 newspaper interview and Hannover is also mentioned in his army record.
