Hi Don

I think that you and I may have had some correspondence several years ago.

My great great grandfather was Heinrich Dieke born January 17, 1817 or 1818
in the Kingdom of Hannover - - we believe somewhere near Neustadt am Rübenberg
. . but have never found the town or village or the name of his parent's.
Many of the families who settled in Proviso Township, Cook County came from
the towns and villages west, north and east of Neustadt am R He emigrated to
Cook County, Illinois ca. 1845. He became very successful and owned
considerable property..He died January 32, 1900 in LaGrange, Cook County, Illinois.
His death is recorded in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Proviso (now Hillside),
Cook County . . but the place of his birth is only given as Hannover. I have
never found an obit for him. Many of the people who settled in the Proviso
Township area of Cook County came from towns and villages west, north and east
of Neustadt am Rübenberg.

H i Don,
It's possible that we corresponded previously, but I don't recall the
details.
It sounds like your Heinrich DIEKE may have been the son of my Heinrich
since mine married about a year and a half before yours was born and two
years before the birth of my GG grandmother in Lutter.
Have you had an opportunity to research any of the parish records in
Mandelsloh? That's apparently where the records for Lutter were kept.
I'll keep you advised of any developments on this line and would
appreciate it if you would do the same.

Don,
I was just looking for Lutter on Google Maps, and the nearest thing I
could find near Neustadt was "Lutter am Barenberge" which is located about 5
miles NNE of Empede, where my GGG Grandmother was from (Empede is about a
mile north of Neustadt). It is less than 2 miles from Mandelsloh where the
church records were kept.
  Don Roddy

Google Maps has a BIG Mistake.
I know. I was in Neustadt am Rubenberge summer of 2007.
The very small town of LUTTER is a few miles from there, and so is the town of
Mandelsloh where the church records are for Lutter. My gg grandfather
was from (Lutter)there and came to America in about 1837. He settled in Indiana and Missouri.

Lutter am Bareberge is SOUTH of Hannover and not near Neustadt am Rubenberge.

Joy

Hallo,

es gibt zwei Lutter. Kirche von Mandelsloh = Ev. luth. Kirchengemeinde Mandelsloh

Viele Grüße Manfred

Hi Joy,
Are you saying that Google shows the incorrect name for Lutter? The
town I found identified on the Google Map was about 2 km northwest of
Mandelsloh, and definitely north of Hannover. I also found the town which
Google Map called "Lutter" some distance south of Hannover. I assume that
one should have actually been "Lutter am Bareberge" ?
   Thanks for the information.
    Don Roddy

Danke zehr, Manfred.
