Elke,
I don't know if this will help you or not, but the evangelical church records
for Alt Christburg for the years 1814-1883 are located at the following
archive:
Archiwum Panstwowe w Olsztynie
ul. Partyzantów 18
10-521 Olsztyn
Polska, Poland
Regards,
Russ
Russ,
I cannot believe this - this is the first good news I had about the
evangelical church records for Alt Christburg.
I was in Allenstein (Olsztyn) ten years ago but that was my first trip to
East Prussia (left at age 4 as a refugee) that I was just overwhelmed seeing
my birth place in Bensee, County Mohrungen - my grandparents places, seeing
Allenstein, Osterode, Mohrungen, all those places in the area called
"Masuren." Next year I plan a trip to the area again and I will have a
"clearer mind" - namely looking up the Alt-Christburg church records in
Allenstein. Will check on those Catholic Church Records too from the Eastern
Part of Germany which the German Catholic church just handed over to Poland.
Anyhow, when I visit East Prussia and Allenstein I will let people in the
OWP List know.
Thanks again for this valuable information.
Best regards,
Elke Hedstrom, Garland, TX USA
Russ, I read your message, as the above referenced person is my
great-grandfather. Am I to assume that the East and West Prussian records are
now in "neutral territory"? I can have someone who speaks or writes Polish write
there for me, or do you know someone who could go there and do research?
Arlene Bogardus, Orem, UT PS, my late husband has Masons from Berkeley
County, West Virginia (formerly Virginia) on his family history line. Thank you
for your information.
