Does anybody have information relative to the R Catholic Ahlers "clan" from Vechta, Lohne, Visbeck, Varnhorn area in the period 1500-1700 ?
My "Urvater" Henrich Ahlers married Anna Voet in 1688 at St Georg Vechta ,but he was NOT from Vechta TTheir son ,Hollandgaenger Henrich born 1689 became stammvater of a considerable Dutch Aalders /Alders clan in Velsen North Holland ,which spread to the USA ,Australia and New Zealand .
I am also keen to establish a family relationship between Casper Otto Alers from Bakum (father AnJohann Alers and Anna Catharina Deels) .Both Casper Otto and Henrich settled at the Jan Gijzenvaart in Velsen .Hence family ties are reasonably probable . Henrich was 46 when he married widow Pieternel Jansz de Bruijn in 1735 and in 1736 aged 47 he married 20 year old Antje Bijmans . How did these old fellows get the young chicks ? Had Antje turned him down ,....I would not be here today !!!
Does anyone have information of an earlier marriage of Henrich or his brothers or sisters ?
Can anyone help me with the grandparents and great grandparents of Casper Otto Alers of Bakum born in 1704 ? and Marijtje Aalderse (death 1741 in Velsen) who I suspect was born Alers , Ahlers or Ahlerss and is probably a sister to Henrich or Casper Otto ?
Being a Grandpa myself ,can you imagine the "guts" required for "bauer Velt" from Freere near Lingen when young Casper together with older (probable ) Uncle Henrich called at the farmhouse on their walk to Haarlem and asked if they could take farmer Velts daughter Margareta for a "spazierung " from Lingen to Haarlem a city about 50km west of Amsterdam .,to get married there to Casper Otto and in all probability never see Mum and Dad again..?.
Those were tough times which called for tough decisions !
