After 5 years I am still looking for Julius Wilhelm Burgdorf. I recently reactivated my search and presently am reviewing LDS film of civil and church records of the area aound Baddeckenstedt. While I found several Burgdorfs none seem to be connected to Julius. I found Parishes named Bockenem, Grasdorf, Bonnien and others. I assume these are church parishes except where noted as civil records. Where are these Parishes geographically?
My search is based on 2 reliable sources. Julius, on his son's baptismal record, said he was born in Hildesheim in Hanover. A search of church records there found nothing. Since the child was baptised in the First German Protestant Church of New Orleans I assume he is Evangelical. The 2nd source says Julius emigrated from Hamburg and his last place of origin was Baddeckenstedt. No records found there either.
I have been looking at the titles of various LDS film and noted that many titles have Kr. Marienburg after the location such as Baddeckenstedt. I know Kr means district but is it a church district, a political district (county), a geographical district?
Is it possible that when Julius says he born in Hildescheim Hanover he could be referring to larger area including many nearyby church districts in other villages? Is there a central archive that would house all the records or does each church need to be separately searched?
Finally, I would welcome any listers to recommend a professional researcher who specializes in that area. If frowned on by the posting administrator you can reply to pharmaxx@charter.net
