The Burmeisters I am looking for were living in Freierlande, Pomerania at the
time they immigrated but the post office and the place of birth mentioned is
Pütte on American documents. Freierlande is near Greifswald and Stralsund.
Jochim Burmeister & Marie Schotter or Schlott were the parents of;
Carl Burmeister b. 10 Oct. 1861 in Pütte, he immigrated with his family in
1903 from Hamburg and settled in Elgin, Illinois, Kane Co. U.S.A.
Carl Burmeister married Martha A. Bantow or Banton, she was b. 15 July 1858
in Rügen. Her father is Johann Bantow, mother unknown.
They had 7 children all born in Pütte according to American documents

William C. b. 17 Feb. 1892
Charles R. b. 16 Aug. 1893
Frank C. b. 7 Dec. 1894
Elsie Bertha b. 31 Jan. 1896
Martha b. 13 Sept. 1898
Emma H. b. 27 Feb. 1903
The tie in is that Elsie Bertha Burmeister married Ernst Johann Witt in 1915
in Elgin, IL. Kane Co.
I havn't been able to do much work on the Burmeister name just yet.
The Hagerman/Hagemann/Hageman name I am working on never lived in Illinois, I
am getting information that they came from the Neterlands or Holland.
The Leverentz or Leverenz name is the birth mother of my in-laws grandfather,
Caroline Wilhelmine Christiane Leverentz married Johann Heinrich Joachim
Friedrich Witt about 1880 and they had son, Ernst Johan Friedrich Carl Witt
b. 16 July 1883 in Torgelow, parish of Schoen. That is somewhere near
Rostock.
They moved to Rostock after Ernst was born and Caroline Leverentz might have
died and Johann Witt must have remarried as Ernst Witt gives his mother's
name on his Social Security application as Lena Muller. It was Ernst J. Witt
who was in the military at Parchim 1904-1907.
Do you think any of your early Burmeister people might have lived around
Freierlande, Pomerania ?
If you need any help with earlier information from Kane or Will County IL., I
live in DuPage Co. which is right next door. I have access to early
information about those countys and have access to the statewide Illinois
Death Index that starts in 1916 and ends in 1948.
