Hi Paul,
It is to be read "Juvenis", Latin for = Junggeselle = bachelor.
Surely you will also see "Virgine" = Jungfrau = virgin - this being more
familiar to you.
The problem: Sometimes they would use Latin letters (as in Juvenis),
sometimes German handscript. A Latin "J" has no loop below line like a
German "J". Thus the Latin "L" looks almost like a German "T" but this
always showing a small hook above the line.

compare letters.
