Zimmermann

Hello,

I am searching for the families of Heinrich ZIMMERMANN born in 1852 in Grete and his wife Maria HECHT born in Moordorf, Neustadt, Hannover, Prussia in 1854.
I have some vague belief that they owned a restaurant at a rail station in Moordorf. That is not confirmed however.
Any information would be appreciated.

Hi Bill,

What other information do you have on these people?

Barbara

Hi Barbara,

Thanks for asking. This is what I know.
Heinrich Zimmermann and wife Catherine Busker both born in Grete.
Son Heinrich Zimmermann born in Grete 23 June 1852. Wife Maria Hecht born 29
March 1854 in Moordorf.
Children Hermine (1875), Catherine (1877), Heinrich (1878), Else (1880,
Eleonore (1881), and Louise born 23 Feb. 1886. Louise was my grandmother who
was killed in an automobile accident before I was born. The accident was in
Kirkland New York but Louise and husband Wilhelm lived in Rochester New
York. Both were killed in the accident in 1929.
I know what happened to the oldest child Hermine and Louise but nothing of
any of the others.
I have an old postcard with a picture of a restaurant next to a rail
station. The name Zimmermann is on the restaurant.

Best Regards,

Hello Bill,

I've been looking at my super German Autoatlas. The name of the town
Grete is not even in the index. However, I did find the tiny little town.
There is not a church in Grete so one would have to guess where they would
have gone to church.. Do you use Mormon (LDS) records? There is a very
small listing for Rhaude:

Zivilstandsregister, 1812-1814 civil registration
Geburten, Heiraten, Tote 1812-1814
FHL INTL Film 1258183 Item 12
There's a bit of a chance that it would go back to the older Zimmermann and
Busker.

   Maybe more later,
   Barbara

Hello,

take maps.google.de and you will find Grete.

Best regards, Manfred

Hi Bill,
what makes you think the rail station is in Moordorf? Do you know where
Moordorf is? I found 4 places called Moordorf that are located in Prussia.
If your Neustadt is Neustadt am Rübenberge then Moordorf is today called
Poggenhagen. Both villages were united in 1928. They now belong to the town
of Neustadt am Rübenberge ( also written Neustadt a. Rbge.) which is about
16 miles north of Hannover.
Check out Poggenhagen's homepage http://www.poggenhagen.info/ .Does
anything look similar to the picture on your postcard? ( click: Bilder :
Moorkrug or Schützenumzug am Bahnhof)
Could you scan or discribe every detail of the postcard of the restaurant
you have ( both sides!!) ?
Which year was it printed and which year was it sent?
There was no rail station in Moordorf, but there was and is one in
Poggenhagen. The rail staion was build in 1908. There is a Restaurant/
Gasthaus in Poggenhagen but I don't know how close it is to the train
station.
A Ludwig Hecht was one of the founders of the volunteer fire department in
1932. Zimmermann is a very comon name in Germany. There are 16 Zimmermann
listed in Neustadt's white pages ( 2008/2009) but only one Hecht.
Best regards,
Iris
