Hello,
I'm new to this list. Sorry, don't speak or read German. I'm looking for Wolfeans in Hannover.
Mine were ship captains. Specifically need to find birth and parents of Frederick Wolfean who was born about 1830-35. They left Germany and came to Texas in 1840's. I have images to share along with information.
Hello Peter,
You have a tough one there. I can't find anybody by that name,
except for some in Texas. That is probably your family. In a Google
search, there is reference of Frederick Wolfean being on the Confederate
side in the war--must have been the Civil War. I've looked in numerous
places in Germany -- also the LDS, Rootsweb, etc.
There is no one listed in the German telephone book with the name
Wolfean.
Have you ever found him on a ship list? Also, have you ever looked
into his citizenship papers? People were allowed to change their names when
they applied for citizenship. Do you think he could have changed his name?

Hello Peter!
If you pronounce Wolfean in english and write it down in german it could be WOLFIEN. In the german phone book I found 39 entries for Wolfien.
Greetings form Germany, Andrea
Hello,
At family search there is an Elizabeth Wolfean m. Joseph Edward Barrow. Couldn't find Wolfean on Texas census so tried Barrow.
Found:
Rueben Barrow and Family
1880 Census
Turtle Bayou, Chambers, Texas
If you click to the right 3 households you find household of Marion Stein. In this household are:
Mary Wolfern (mother)
Elizabeth Wolfern (s-sis)
Fred Wolfern (s-bro)
Well to make long story short tried variations of Wolfern and found this site:

Not exactly sure but I think Wolffern is listed as a village name? Wonder if Wolffern could be a root to your search?
Quite possible my logic has left the building...
