Wittenberg

I want to thank all of the people who responded to my inquiry regarding the town of Lutherstadt. Now here is my dilemma. On a 1920 Census, my great-grandmother gave the place of birth of her husband as Wittenberg, Germany. Now I know that many possibilities arise here. Did she mean the Province of Weurtenburg? Secondly, on a reparable map, an 1883 edition of the "Atlas des Deutschen Reichs", the Gazetteer mentions five Wittenbergs. If you go to the phone book, you find seven Wittenbergs. Finally, if you go to JewishGen, ShtetSeeker, web site, you're given 51 possibilities, all with various spellings. All of this tends to overwhelm me. So, I've decided to go for the most obvious. The largest Wittenberg on the map that I mentioned above is Lutherstadt. I found a web site on Cyndi's List, that gives a list of church archives of Saxony. But it appears that they don't go as far north as Wittenberg. I think, what I need to find is the address of the Evangelische Kirche der Kirchenprovinz Sachsen. Does anyone out there know this address or where I can find it. I know that the Family History Library has numerous microfilms of the town of Lutherstadt, but I suspect that my great-grandfather was probably born in a nearby town. Many thanks, Edward
