Louis Winch and all I have is Mecklenburg as where he came from. Is anyone
studying this family name or can you give a clue where I might start?
Since WINCH is not a real common name, I would start by looking up the
name in the index to the 1819 Mecklenburg census. That will give you the
list of towns in Mecklenburg-Schwerin where that name existed in the
early 1800s. With any luck, there will not be many.
The Index is available on microfiche at your local Family History
Center. If they do not already have it, they can order it cheap (< $5).
