Dean,
may I advise you to also send the English version to the list? Most of
our members understand some of the language and it may be a better
read then your German translation. At minimum it would help to have
both versions in an email question.
Fred
from the baptism register:
Rolf Wilking was born out of wedlock on Nov 30, 1918 in Oldenburg, baptized Dec 11 in Osternburg. His mother was Anna Marie Wilking, born Bloherfelde Feb 5, 1897. No father is named. Godmother was Helene Wilking.
Anna Wilking's parents were the deceased Johann Wilking, miller, and Helene née Schmidt.
Thank you for your information, I have been busy with my business over the
last few months, so I have not had the time to reply.
I do have certain information on Rolf but nothing on other family members.
As you said, Rolf was born out of wedlock as apparently his mother tried to
force a marriage her family did not want, I believe Rolfs father was a local
baker. I know that Rolfs mother did marry and had a daughter by the name of
Eva or Ava, surname possibly Gardner or Gurtner, Rolf did emigrate with his
mother to Joinville in Brazil but I assume Anna Marie had married before
emigrating which I believe was before WW2. Is there any information of Anna
Marie Wilkings marriage, birth of her daughter or the emigration to Brazil I
have searched some passenger logs for the name Wilking but nothing, so
currently I am at a loss on this path.
Rolf did return back to Oldenburg at some point before 8th July 1938 as he
inlisted in the Army (military district command: Oldenburg 08.07.1938) and I
have in my possession his Army Record Book which is very interesting showing
his promotions and battles in Belguim, Luxenburg, France, Poland and Russian
states where on December 1943 he was killed in action (a letter translates
as "time out" on the cemetery the division in sslutki, approximately 16km
northwest Newel). Is there a war memorial for the soldiers of WW2 in
Oldenburg?
You say deceased Johann Wilking and Helene nee Schmidt, I'm assuming that
Godmother Helene Wilking is Helene Schmidt. Is there a record of when Johann
and Helene married, did they have siblings or other children, when did they
pass away. Are there any Wilking family members alive today? Where can I get
this info or if you have any information it would be much appreciated.
Is there any records of the deaths of Johann Wilking or his wife Helene nee
Schmidt. Anna Marie was not Johann and Helene only daughter, is there a
record of another child (daughter). Anna Marie Wilking did marry and have a
second child a daughter is there any record of this.
Or can someone please inform me of where I could possibly find this
information.
The family seem to originate from Bloherfelde, Oldenburg.
Anna Marie Wilking was born in Bloherfelde, Oldenburg on 5th Feb 1897, she
had a son out of wedlock named Rolf Wilking born 30th November 1918 in
Oldenburg and he was baptized 11th Dec 1918 in Osternburg, Oldenburg (do not
know the name of the church).
Anna Marie's sister was named something like Emey or Emily, it's possible
she was born in Bloherfelde, Oldenburg.
Anna Marie's parent Johann Wilking and Helena (nee Schmidt) were born in
Bloherfelde, Oldenburg.
Anna Marie did marry but not to Rolf's father, she also had a daughter .
Anna Marie did emigrate to Joinville, Brazil sometime between 1918 and 1937,
if I could find details of her marriage would be help full but I also need
to trace the roots of the family as well, as we have no history of my
mother's family, Rolf Wilking was her father.
I have no other dates or information only that Johann was a miller of some
sort.
Thanks
You definitely have a "brick wall" with Rolf's father. I don't know how
anyone solves the mystery of an unnamed father. Perhaps others will have
some suggestions. Heiko is a very helpful person, as you know. Perhaps
he can help you with finding more about your family before Anna Marie
Wilking.
I don't know if contacting the church would be helpful or not:
I looked for your family on Ancestry, but didn't find anything -- except
that there are thousands of Wilkings indexed there. I know nothing about
research in Brazil. You might look for a "Brazil" email list from
Rootsweb.
There used to be web pages with memorials to the fallen German soldiers,
but I don't find those any more.
All I know about Rolf's father is that he was apparently a "baker", but
interestingly Rolf returned to Oldenburg at sometime before July 1938
leaving his mother, sister and step father in Brazil. The only family I am
aware he had in Oldenburg was his Aunt (mothers sister) and his blood
father, so where did he live, did Germany have any type of "Census Records".
I know that Rolf joined the Army as I have what I would call his Army book,
it's similar to a passport, his father is not named but interestingly Rolfs
profession is baker, the book states vocation learnt: baker apprentice,
vocation practiced: baker assistant/fellow guild member, would there be a
list of "baker guild members"?
Thanks
