Good evening, friends,
well, what's new ??
Lots of things !!
Due to 'overload' on my side, our ships and passenger list databases
had been 'idling' for quite a while, but Kathleen and Russell have been
very activ and started to give these projects a big 'boost' and we
already added a few more ships and a lot of passengers.
A BIG 'Thank you' to Kathleen and Russell !!
And of course, a BIG 'Thank you' is due to our transcribers, who
work silently and busily in the 'background' doing the sometimes
'impossible' task to transcribe something which had been written
100 to 200 years ago, by someone who didn't really know how to 'write'...
You probably will not notice much difference in our websites, but the
'technical stuff' has been totally reworked.
First, you will notice on the bottom of the 'starting page':
http://www.saxonyroots.com/ships
that the latest additions to our databases are listed there.
Many of the place names now show a link to 'Mapquest' where you can
see the location of that place and in doing that, I learned a lot
of 'geography' myself.
Another amazing thing is, that with Mapquest some of the places
have a link in the upper right corner called 'Aerial Image'.
With that you will have a look from space at that place and you can
even 'zoom in' and can see the streets and buildings.
Not all of the places have been 'linked' yet, but Jackie is working
very hard to add the geographical data, which is a very time-consuming
job...
Thanks a lot for that, Jackie !!
And.. there are lots of more changes coming soon, but we will talk
about that later on..
I try to do everything as perfect as possible, but I'm sure, that
there are some 'develish' bugs hiding somewhere.. ![]()
PLEASE give me a little help and let me know whenever you find
one of them...
Anyone out there having some knowledge with Excel and/ or PHP ??
and willing and able to give me a hand (or two) ??
This would even speed up the further development of our websites !!
A note to our germanspeaking friends:
We always claim, that our websites are 100% bi-lingual...
Well, sorry, this is not completed yet, but will be soon...
Thanks for listening and have a nice evening wherever you are,
Wolf [Zscheile]
