Hallo Marilyn,
my Schimmel family came from Bochum in Westfalen and I'm sorry I don't know
if anyone of them emigrated to the U.S.
My gggggrandmother Anna Wilhelmina Maria Catharina Elisabeth Niederheitmann
was born May 16, 1793 in Bochum-Weitmar as the daughter of Henrich Eberhard
Niederheitmann and Johanne Christine Gertrud Schimmel (* Feb. 9, 1767 in
Bochum-Weitmar). The father of Johanne Christine Gertrud Schimmel was the
preacher in Bochum-Weitmar 1761-1797, Johann Diederich Theodor Andreas
Schimmel. He was born June 6, 1735 in Wattenscheid, his father was the
teacher Johann Caspar Schimmel in Wattenscheid.
There is a mailing list you can subscribe to (SCHIMMEL-L@rootsweb.com), but
I don't know if they have much information (at least they know about some
Schimmel families in the U.S.).
