I am brand new to this list and I need help. I am seeking information on my
3X grandparents Frederich Stuewe b. Jun 1814 and wife Carolina ? ? ? ? b.
Jan 1816. They emigrated to the U.S. in1850 with their three children,
sailing from Hamburg on the 3 masted sailing ship Gutenberg and arriving in
New York on 13 Nov 1850. According to the ships passenger list they were
from Langenhagen, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern but I have no idea where any of the
family were actually born. I don't know when or where Frederich & Carolina
were married or her maiden name. From the birthdates of the children I would
guess they were married 1840/1841. Children were Wilhelm b. 1842, Dorothea
Maria (my 2X great grandmother) b. Nov 1843 & Georg Ludwig Christian b. Jul
1847.
The family eventually settled and prospered in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. I
would be grateful for any information this list might be able to provide on
this family, Carolina's maiden name, etc. If they did indeed live in
Langenhagen what church records are available and how would I be able to use
or access them? I am a fairly experienced researcher but have allowed myself
to be intimidated by geography and language issues in dealing with my German
ancestry. It's time I got over it and get on with researching this branch
of the family tree. Any and all help gratefully received!
As a side note.in some records I have found they refer to Langenhagen,
Mecklenburg-Schwerin rather than Vorpommern. Not certain if this is a
significant factor or not but it seems it could be. Thanks again!
