Dear Listers,
I had a big pleasant surprise when German Google brought up a page showing
the surname 'FLEMME' which I am interested in.
To my untrained eye it looks like a church record dated 22/03/1693
http://www.westfalengen.de/quellen/Listen/oelde1693.txt
Nomina parochianorum communicantium
int- et extra Oldam [1693 Mrz 22]
entry no.1392 Johan Flemme 20
I have visited the Westfalen home page but I am unable to find the
introductory link to Johan FLEMME. Can someone tell me which district Johan
lived in please?
On another website, I only found a small reference to the history of
Westfalen (1803), which seems as though some of it might have been part of
Hannover at some time. Can someone suggest a website, preferably with some
English, as I am finding the 'Language Tool' more humorous than useful.

Hi Rena,
one step further....
Google search also brings you
http://www.google.de/search?q=oelde&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=de&btnG=Google-Suche&meta=
if you search for Oelde.
Best Regards
Detlev
Hi Rena,
I would guess that this is referring to the town of Oelde which is in
Westfalen east of Münster (and a little south). It is a little north of
Highway 2 and west of Rheda-Wiedenbruck. This appears to be a list of
parishioners (possibly) in a Catholic church in Oelde in the diocese of
Münster.
Nordrhein-Westfalen is a state to the south of what is known today as
Niedersachsen.
You may want to look at this website and see the map of the Kingdom of
Hannover. Westfalen was not in Hannover.

My yesterdays buy of the second hand market was:
KLEYBOLDT, Chr.:Sammlung kichlicher Erlasse, Verordnungen und Bekanntmachungen
fr die Dizese Mnster, Mnster 1898, 690 Seiten.
Following this, it seems the church district reached to the North into nowadays
Lower-Saxony to the region of Oldenburg. The book gives answers to questions
about dealing church affairs by priest about prices of acting in religious
affairs and priests income, in case of marriage between Catholic and Lutheran
peoples, how to deal with different groups in society and lot of more issues,
especially in context with ceremonies. So, if there is a question how things
should have been dealt officially about 1900 in these Catholic regions, I might
try to find it out ...
