Welcome to the "Genealogy.net-users-en" mailing list (Digest mode)- australia/south africa -von marillac

Hi list

Thanks for the welcome.

My name is Michelle von Marillac, and I am trying to find one of my
ancestors who immigrated from Hesse-Nassau Preussen, to Melbourne
Australia, probably between 1848- 1867.
His name was Theodore von Marillac and he was born in Hachenburg,
Westerwald, Hessen-Nassau, Preussen on 06 Sept 1825. I have the
original birth certificate.

I seem to have come to a dead end! His father was Count Theodore von
Marillac, supreme Forester for the Dukes of Nassau in Montabaur and
Wiesbaden, and his brother Friederich and Franz where both in the
Prussian army. I have no idea what happened to Theodore, who was the
oldest son. Seems to have dropped off the face of the earth! The other
siblings and their spouses, Captain Rosenhahn and Captain Jurisch,
emigrated to South Africa prior to 1859. Trying to avoid the army?

I have an original letter dated 20 Sep 1854 written from
Frankfurt-am-Main, dealing with military affairs but am still trying to
decipher it!

If anyone can assist on any information, especially emigration, marriage
and death records, I would sincerely appreciate it!

Regards

Hi -Michelle

I have sent your request on to the Baden-Wurttemberg list. Several Aussies belong to it and should be able to tell you how to look for Theodore in Australia.
