It has been brought to my attention that my great-grandfather may have actually been a migrant worker who worked in Beestland before embarking from Hamburg. (He left in late October--perhaps he worked until the harvest season was over and then left with his earnings? He was a single young man at the time).
Anyway, it is my understanding that some areas had a police registry of some sort which kept track of people who were not indigenous to the area, but were perhaps temporary or migrant workers.
Did the areas of Beestland, Levin, or Mecklenburg or thereabouts have such a requirement? If so, is there a way to access the archives?
Regards,
Kathy
