Warnecke

Looking for the parents of Christian Wilhelm Warnecke, b. 8 Feb. 1832, Hanover, Germany. I wish I knew where in Hanover, but do not. He married Rosine Abell in Madison, Il. (they are my Great Grandparents.) and all their children were christened at Salem Lutheran Church, Black Jack, North St. Louis, MO. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The question is: does your WARNECKE came from the town or the country of
Hannover? I have in my chronic a person Johann Heinrich Christian
WARNECKE from Heiligendorf ( a small place south of Wolfsburg which is
ca 50 km away from the city of Hannover). He married on May 6. 1838
Johanna Friederike Elisabeth SPANUTH,(36-946) she was born Jul 2.1810.
Regards
Michael (Spanuth)

Hello,
Have you seen this ship list? Christian's name is there, but it doesn't
specify where he is from--

ISTG Vol 5 - Bark Amalie

I found this on the website below, which indicates that Christian
Warnecke was born in Herssun, Hannover. However, the closest town I can find
is spelled Herssum. It is northeast of Haselünne. That general area is a
very Catholic area, but it could be that there were Lutherans there as well.
Or maybe he was Catholic and his wife was Lutheran and they raised the
children as Lutheran. Do you have a birthplace for her?

I hope this helps your search.

There was a Christian Varnecke married to a Rosina who is listed as a
pensioner from the Civil War. He is listed as a member of Co. B of the
Freemont Hussars and the Missouri Cavalry. Suggest you apply for his veteran
record with a NATF Form 80 which may be available at the National Archives
web page. This pension wasn't granted until 1907 so I assume it's probably
similar to my g-grands who was awarded one for his rheumatism problem even
though it wasn't directly related to any injury during the War.

Also, do you have a copy of the church marriage record? That is also a good
best bet to find their German residences. And, check "Germans to America" at
or through your library for his/her record on a manifest. I believe
(V)Warnecke may be a common name but if he left through Bremen, there may be
a record available. Good hunting

Hello Vertrees,

there will be lots of WARNECKE and ABEL and by that possible places in "Hanover",
bur maybe it is of some help to know, that there were only 2 (two) entries in the
telefon directory of 1995 for the ABELL-name with the double-L at the end. Here
they are:
- ABELL, Ben, Stettiner Str.2,63843 Niedernberg, Tel. 06028 996827
- ABELL, John, Stettiner Str.2, 63843 Niedernberg, Tel. 06028 4611
That place is a bit south of Aschaffenburg, nearby the the river Main and by
that of course not in Lower-Saxony, butmuch more south. If they aren't
repratioted from your family and so alreday known, there might be a chance for
news.

Greetings Hans Peter Albers

Germans to America shows a Christian Warnecke (from CD) arriving in New York
on the ship Amalie 23 May 1857, age 25. Could be the one you are looking
for. The passenger list for this ship has been transcribed by the Immigrant
Ships Transcribers Guild. Unfortunately, the passenger list does not give a
village of origin.

I show an Amanda Warnecke born in 1890, location unknown, died 1972 in Bremer County Iowa. She married Herbert Friedrich Wilhelm Koelling in Bremer County Iowa. There are some genealogists who are quite active in researching Bremer County, in case there's a connection to your Christian Warnecke.
