Hello liste ... I have not posted before but have been
recommended by Sven Meyer who thinks this may be
appropriate for my question. My mother came to the UK
on the kindertransport.
In my family tree I have traced relatives to the Warburg family.
My ancestor is Elias Simon Warburg b.1803 -1870 who
married Fanny Meyer b.1809 - 1855
The Warburg clan at that time lived in Altona, Hamburg.
Elias Simon and Fanny had three children, Meta, Gustav and Albert
Meta was b. Gluckstadt (the others maybe).
Meta Warburg m. Adolf Frank b. Kloetse 20.01.1834 (Wiki)
The had three children, Albert Rudolf Frank (Wiki), Paul Frank
and Margarete Elizabeth Frank - who is my great aunt and
married into my family.
I am trying to seek:
a) Any details on Fanny Meyer
b) Parents of Elias Simon Warburg and any details of family
The Warburg clan are enormous and the available family trees
are conflicting. I have a request into the Warburg institute in
London to see if they can help me.
Sarah Warburg b.1805 was the only daughter of Moses Marcus b.1763
who, along with his brother Gerson b.1765 were co-owners of
the bank M+M Warburg, Hamburg. The role of their bank through
the 19th and 20th Centuries is astounding.
There was no male heir and Sarah had to be married. She was
in love (according to the Ron Chernow book) with Elias Simon W.
(my ancestor) but as he was a FIRST cousin it was thought too
close and so she was married to her SECOND cousin Aby b.1798.
This then became the banking dynasty which split off later to be
the Alsterufer Warburgs and the Mittleweg Warburgs.
So if Elias Simon was her first cousin .... who was his father?
Gerson apparently died a batchelor.
When Moses Marcus died he left the bank equally to Aby
his son in law and to Elias Simon (my ancestor). According to
Ron Chernow Elias then sold his shares 7 years later and left
to set up his own bank. There are no records I can access to
find him, it seems. I've been looking for several months.
Can anyone help me make a connection?
Thanks so much.
