Hello R Allen,
you should check the spelling. In Germany we have only one Wakemann address in southern of Germany, not in Oldenburg area.
In Oldenburg City I found this address:

  Wackermann
  Am Wunderburgpark 9 B
  26135 Oldenburg
  Germany

and Warrelmann, Walsemann, Wachsmann, Wagemann.

Thank you for your response. My family spells it as Wakeman. But it
differs in the census schedules. Besides the Wakeman spelling, it is
also spelled Wichman, and even the name of Oldenburg is sometimes
spelled as Aldenburg by the census taker.

I have determined (tentative) that the year of migration to the United
States was between the years 1832 and 1856.
