Here's the story: Charles BRUNS shortened his name from VON BRUNS when he
immigrated to the United States in 1851. He had come to the U.S. to decide
whether or not he wanted to enter the priesthood. When he decided he wanted
to stay in the US, he was told he would have to give us the family fortune.
It is said his brother would take his place in the family line. <snip>
Hello Cheryl,
Sorry - I am not able to assist with your name of BRUNS. You mentioned
royalty. I am familiar with the surname BRUNSWICK, which was part of our
royal family's title. 'WICK' means a place, e.g. 'hamlet', 'village',
'town'. Therefore, originally a person named 'Brunswick' would be from
the place of 'Bruns' (in German it would be 'Von Bruns'). All over
Britain, there are places, hotels, etc., called 'Brunswick'. I've pasted a
date in English history books for you:-
1490 Seven men, known as the Hanover Spartans, die in a successful attempt
to stop the siege of Hanover by Duke Henry of Brunswick
Good hunting,
Rena in England.
