Village/Town of Hofra

I have been trying to find out information about one of my great-grandfathers, Heinrich Meyer. Accordingto information on his Australian marriage certificate [1863] he was born in Hanover about 1835-1837 at the village/town of Hofra . I cannot find this place on my road atlas of Germany and I have been told it may only be found on an old map. These are usually found in large libraries. Can you offer any help or advice ?

Thank you

Hi Colin,

another guess, but only a guess might be perhaps:" HOFKOH Post Wistedt b.Elsdorf" = W 2730 Zeven, today subsummarized under the place of 27404 Zeven. It has got at least as a word a bit the length of HOFRA.

If there is no misreading possible, you should check, if HOFRA is a place name at all, as it can be also a not to common, but shortening for a title as today Doctor or Ing. and in your case the word starts as the earlier lended title "HOFRAT".

Collin,
For what it's worth, I did a place name search for HOFRA when your original
message was first posted. There REALLY is a Hofra, but it's not in the old
Kingdom of Hannover area. It is located about midway between Augsberg and
Munich.
