Dear Cindy -
The giving of German names included an "honorific" first name, followed by
one or more "everyday" given names from which one was chosen to call the
child during his/her lifetime. Therefore, you will find this variety of
names appearing in the records, oftentimes in a somewhat different order
than you first discovered it. Because there was a lot of repetition in
naming, it is always wise to seek out the christening/baptism records at
the church in the locality where the child was born to get a handle on what
was first used. Later children in the same family could have variations on
the theme, so it is also a good idea to see what other births there were to
a family which may have closely followed the pattern, with only one name
the variable, such as Friedrich Wilhelm and Wilhelm Friedrich. Have you
checked your local Family History Center (assuming there is one located
near you) to see if the actual films for Joellenbeck are available? (I am
askinjg this without having accessed the <familysearch.org> site to check.)
If you are relying solely upon the IGI database online, you are opening
yourself to the human error of other researchers/extractors, as well. It
would be wise to either check the film yourself, or call upon the services
of a paid researcher in Salt Lake City who has access to the Family History
Library to look into it for you. From the information you have provided,
however, I would be inclined to accept the record you found, with the
caveat that you haven't seen the original churchbook for yourself.
Good luck!
