My ancestors aren't in the databases either, I think they swam over.

I thought I would never find my maternal grandparents on a ship list until finally, through other sources, I found that they had entered the USA from Canada, since it was cheaper to sail to Canada than to the USA. Add to that the name was mis-spelled on the list, and those items made it a very difficult search. But I sometimes thought they had come over by rowboat.
