Hello,

Please be patient with me as I do not understand German.
My great grandfather, Joseph Uppenkamp, was born in Wessum, Westfalen, Germany on 21 May 1834. He married Maria Anna Steggeman (unknown date) in Germany. Maria was born 30 January 1842 in unknown Germany. They had 6 children: Bernard, my grandfather, born13 Nov. 1868, Mary born 26 May 1871, Henry born June 1873, Lena born 22 July 1875, Joseph Jr. born 17 May 1877 and Gertrude born around 1879. The children were all born in Wessum. One child was born after they came to America.

Joseph came first to America in 1881, and Maria came in 1882 with the family. She came with a Maria Uppenkamp aged 76. Was this Joseph's mother? I do know that Joseph's sister, Gertrude Uppenkamp Rawers, and family came with them.

Hello Margeria,

I was excited to see someone else searching the family name of Uppenkamp. My great grandmother was Elizabeth Uppenkamp. She was married in St Louis MO in the late 1860's to a Heinrich Juengermann. I have that she was born in Ahaus, Westfalen, Prussia. I believe that her parents were Johann Uppenkamp and Ann Margaretha Terweg.

There were several Uppenkamps in St Louis area. Are any of these yours? I have other data on the other Uppenkamps in the area.

Hello Eva,

Thank you for the family history of Joseph Uppenkamp. It definitely gives me quite a bit to work on. Do you remember where you found it? I found that Averesch and Alstatte are very near Wessum. My grandfather used to tell me how they walked to the different villages. This he did as a very young man as he was 13 when they came to America in 1882. Thank you again as I certainly appreciate it.

Hello George,

I've been working on the family tree but just got serious about the Uppenkamp line. At this time I do not see any connection to your line. My Uppenkamp line has basically stayed in Ohio. John is not a name used in the Uppenkamp line. In my father's line, almost every male is named John which makes it difficult. They all used their second name. I'll keep your letter in my files.
