Friends!
I feel very emotional about the drama of last Tuesday in New York.
An I know that this list is meant to be a non-political forum. But I
can't stop myself from trying to express my feelings ...
(Please feel free to delete this message before reading it, or try to
understand what I just wrote to a friend of mine in Utah/USA):
This is day four after the N.Y.Disaster and I am still trying to find
answers to this event.
The more I think about the happenings of that tragic Tuesday, the more I
am getting mixed feelings about what to think, what to say, what to do.
Here in Germany we have a great amount of solidarity with the U.S.
Nation and especially with those who got hurt as family members or
friends of the ones who died on that day.
People here discuss that drama at work or they meet at churches to pray
to god.
I can well understand that the American people are now looking for
satisfaction. I just hope that Mr. Bush will find a way, which will not
heat up the hate against America even further.
Afghanistan already is a country where the people have to suffer from
the radical methods of their politic leaders. To hit Bin Ladin is
probably appropriate. But hitting the people of Afghanistan could result
in an even bigger anti-American behaviour of the Muslims in the whole
world.
I pray to god that this war will find an end before the whole world is
on fire.
The biggest problem for me is to realize that everywhere in this world
war or attacks, name it "hate", is made IN THE NAME OF GOD!.
Just this moment I do remember an old song made by Bob Dylon, one of my
favourite song writers from the Hippie Era. I still like to sing this
song every now and than, amongst other songs made by Bob Dylon. Let me
find the text to write it down ...
That song is titled The Universal Soldier (written in 1963) and it
goes like this:
Hes a Catholic, a Hindu an atheist, a Jain,
a Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew.
And he knows he shouldnt kill, and he knows he always will
kill you for me, my friend, and me for you.
And hes fighting for Canada, and hes fighting for France,
hes fighting for the USA.
And hes fighting for the Russians, and hes fighting for Japan,
and he thinks well put an end to war this way.
And hes fighting for democracy, hes fighting for the reds,
he says its for the peace of all.
hes the one that must decide whos to live and whos to die.
And he never sees the writing on the wall.
But without him, how would Hitler have condemned them at Dachau,
without him Caesar wouldve stood alone.
Hes the one who gives his body as a weapon of the war,
and without him all this killing cant go on.
Hes the universal soldier, and he really is to blame,
his orders come from far away no more.
They come from here and there and you and me and, brothers, cant you
see:
This is not the way we put an end to war!
My Friend, lets go on and try to go our own way, together with all
those Catholics and Hindus and atheists and Jains, the Buddhists and the
Baptists and the Jews ... who try to give their LOVE and not their body
- and lets include the Muslims too!
