Translation Stadt Oldenburg letter of 29 September 03

Attention Gene Janssen

I am new to the mailing lists and am not certain as yet how they work. I noticed there is a Gene Janssen corresponding on the Oldenburg mailing list and so I am forwarding the attached which refer's to my great great grandmother Wilhelmina Louise Janssen.

I thought it may be possible that you (Gene Janssen) have a family history on the Janssen family from Oldenburg and perhaps my ancestor may fit into this history somewhere.

I would appreciate any assistance you may offer.

Kind regards

Marlene Brennan

Marlene:
I'm sorry, but I don't have any Janssens in Oldenburg--they're all from
Ostfriesland. The name I'm searching in Oldenburg is Popken or Napken.
Though the Janssen name in the US, and perhaps in Australia, is not common,
in Ostfriesland and the Oldenburg area it's so common that there is a
Janssen on almost everyone's tree, which makes it a bit more difficult to
research.
Gene Janssen

Hallo Gene,
I´ll give you "my" Popken. perhaps you will find yours by this way :o)

Good luck! I know looking for Janssen and Schweer(s) is like looking for a needle in a haystack!
Ingrid

I have a Gesine Schweers, born 15 February 1862, in Oldenburg, Germany, in
my tree. She married a Anton Henrich Namken, in Lee County, Texas, on 12
March 1886. I have no record of parents or brothers or sisters. Any other
information would be helpful.

Thanks for Your Assistance,
James E Namken

Thank you Ingrid--though the names are the same as several generations
later, I can't make any connection as yet. I'll file this info though,
sometimes the connection appears later.
Gene

Hello James,
is the Gesine Schweers catholic or lutheran.

Werner

Hello Werner,
The best I can tell, she was lutheran. The records I have are from a
Lutheran church, and we were raised Lutheran, Gesine was my
Great-Grandmother.

Thanks for Your Assistance,
James E Namken

In this case I forwarded your question to the local Oldenburg list (OGF).
