I have been reading the discussion about the name variations in the USA.
I can speak from personal expiriences that this changing or anglosising of
german name is very common even in Australia.
I my case where my Christian Name is Holger I was for many years refered to
as Harry. My brothers names, Manfred was Fred or Niels was Niel. My Step
Fathers Surname was Rauchfuss and he was addressed as Mr Rauschfuss or
Rushfuss.
Very often if a German speaker has a strong accent then the english speaker
would write what he thought that he had heard or what sounded similar to the
name that he had heard.
