I am Andrea Wieters, decentant of the Wieters of Norddrebber. One of the
other contributors to this list sent me a picture of a house with the following
paragraph. Can someone translate it for me? Also, is it common for the
eldest son to take over the home of his father? Do the parents continue to live
there with the son and his wife? Also, it appears that at the time of
publishing, a Wieters still lived in this home. What is the format I need to
address a letter to this home? Lastly, does anyone know where I can get a copy
of the book, "Norddrebber 990-1990" written by Hans Ehlich?

Concerning your questions:

yes, usually the eldest son took over the farm, but there are also lot of exceptions.
yes, the elder people stayed on the farm, sometimes in a special "Altenteilerhaus", menas a seperate house in case of richer farms.
no, the book of Norddrebber seems to be sold out, even the second hand-market is swept empty. Perhaps the local administration knows about some resting books: here the adress gven for 1998: Rathaus Schwarmstedt, 29690 Gilten, Tel. 05071 809 0
The WIETERS I found in the common telephone directory for Norddrebber and Gilten are:
- Wieters, Friedrich, Hauptstr. 38, 29690 Gilten, tel. 05071 4148
- Wieters, Heinrich, 29690 Gilten, Tel. 05071 3219
- Wieters, Ulrich, Hauptstr. 22, 29690 Gilten Tel. 05071 3335
You might check the actual adresses also under www.telefombuch.de giving in Norddrebber and Wieters.

So good luck and best wishes
