hello list readers,

I've a question about a small German handwritten text which can be found here:

The source is a churchbook from the Oldenburg archive. The text I do not completely understand is marked in red, and it probably indicates that the child is baptized after their parents married (the marriage was on the same day as the baptism).

I hope someone can help me with the text, it is very small and probably not too difficult for German speaking people.

For the rest I'm interested in Gehrels family history, we've a database with more than 1000 Gehrels persons from Oldenburg (Edewecht, Osterscheps, Westerscheps, Sengwarden), Holland, and the US. I've posted a question a few years ago and got nice reactions. If anyone shares the same interest please contact me.

best regards,

The note reads: the child was baptized on the wedding day of the parents
but was still an illegitimate birth (or born illegitamately
Das Kind is am Copulations-Tage getauft ist aber unehelich geboren.

Hello Barend,

the remarks means :

the child is baptized on the day, when the parents are married, so it`s an
illegitimate born one.

best regards

Moin,

in Ostfriesland many parents got married - then (to same day) the children were baptized. The pastors did not mark the children as being born illegitimate or not.

Sincerely,
Hans-Georg

hello Werner,

Thanks for your translation!

best regards, Barend

hello List readers,

Sorry for my last answer, that was meant to go to Werner (I copied his e-mail address into the subject instead of the address...)

But now that happened, thanks all for your transcriptions, translations and answers!
