Town/Stadt of Brackhorst

Hallo Listies,
?? I need to find out where the town "Brackhorst im Stift Corvey" was.? A town by that name no longer exists.? Supposedly, Brackhorst existed in the 1500's.? I need to look there next to find my descendant Anton Wedemeyer.

??? Many thanks,

??? Nicole?? Champaign, USA

Hello ??? Nicole?? Champaign, USA

Brackhorst seems to have been an influencial family.
Corvey/Korvey can be pinpointed to the region Minden/Hxter in Westfalen (Westphalia).
(I could find no connection between "Brake" (in the above region) and Brackhorst ...)

So the WFA-List might be a better place to ask your question (however, only German spoken ...).

Do you intend to try ... or should I pass on your question ???!?

Sincere Greetings,

!!!!!!!! Hanno, Achenheim, France, Old Europe

Bonjour Hanno,

Vous etes tres gentil. Merci pour votre assistance. I would be very happy if you could forward my question because I already belong to two list servs, Oldenburg and Hannover. And while I know some French, I don't know enough German to form complete sentences!

    Sincerely, Nicole

Hi Nicole,
    I found this website:

http://www.ortech-engr.com/users/dohmann/default.html

Go to the Early Dohmann Family history:

http://www.ortech-engr.com/users/dohmann/history1.html

There is information there about the town of Höxter where there is the
Kloster Corvey. I see it on a map. The article tells about the Stift Corvey
(Roman Catholic monastery) and the Dohmann family.

I searched on Google for Stift Corvey Brackhorst and there is nothing -
but the name of Bronckhorst is suggested. There you will find several
articles with that name and place.

Names are often spelled several different ways - this may be what you are
looking for--or maybe not....

Barbara

Hi Barbara,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I already tried googling it many ways. And funny you should mention the Dohmann website--I finally emailed him 2 days ago. He is going to try to look in a couple books for me.

I think my answer is not online, but buried in very old atlases or gazeteers. I went to the U. of Illinois, but their map library only has sources back to 19th century Germany, and so did not contain an answer for me. Sigh.

 Regards, Nicole
