This is probably old news, but wouldn't your August Wendt have arrived
in 29 Jun1852 from Petze at age of 21 be your ancestor? That is from
castlegarden.org . That matches the listing of August(age 29) in the 1860
census in Kansas. His mother Christine is with him in that 1860 census at
the age of 55. I don't know, but I think that all looks like it all fits
together.
Have you tried the LDS films for Petze?

Hannover)
That doesn't cover his birth there, but I would think there would be other
Wendts there as well. And the other film may cover his mother?

Zivilstandsregister, 1808-1815 Sibbesse (Hannover). Standesamt
Sibbese is a bit larger town in that area. These towns are all a part of the
former kingdom of Hannover.
