Can anyone tell me where the town of "Petze" is located in Germany. Also
would it be located in the area of the old Kingdom of Hannover? Is there
anyway to have a search made for a record of August Wendt, my grandfather, who
came from the Kingdom of Hannover area. Thanks for any help.

Hi Bill,
It looks like "Petze" was in the old Kingdom of Hannover. It's located south
of Hildesheim, west (abt. 5 miles) of Bad Salzdetfurth, the closest large
city, as well as northeast of Alfeld and east of Gronau. It looks like Petze
had its own parish, so you might want to research your local FHC.

If you are near a LDS center, there are records from Petze on microfilm:
Kirchenbuchduplikat, 1853-1874 Evangelische Kirche Petze (Kr. Gronau,
Hannover)
They are incomplete obviously but perhaps it would cover some of your
relatives.
