Hello Donald,
I have spent some time looking for your THEYE family. I certainly
can't find anything definite online. I presume your family were first in
Maryland and then in Kansas.
You probably have used the LDS microfilms. There are a number of
Theyes listed in a search for that name. Do you have evidence that your
Theyes came from Hannover? I see on the 1880 census that Ellen Theye lists
"Germany" as a birthplace which is rather broad! I would look at the
microfilms that the LDS has for the various towns listed with Theyes, such
as Gehrde, Bersenbrück, Badbergen, Filsum etc. That can be tedious, but it
is worth a try.
Have you ever found a shiplist or citizenship papers? Of course, those
sources may not list the birthplace either.
You should also follow up on the name of Theyen and Thee --that could
easily be the same name in earlier years.
Note this webpage and the various names used:
I believe Harms is the same as Herman. Many have come from the town of
Filsum.
Have you tried to contact any of the Theye families that are listed in
the German phonebook? http://www.telefonbuch.de
You probably have already done all these things. Sorry I can't be of
more help!
Good luck,
Barbara Stewart
