HI, I am late at the old subject long past. But I need a little advice.
With Freds translation in hand I managed to find title or ort. i found the names and i saw the numbers off to the right hand side.
Now I would like to see more about the people I selected.
He said there was information 1- 10 available. Such as date of emigration and birth etc. How do I get that. I have played around a little and didn't get any thing else.
Because sure these are name of some from the area, but how do I know if it is the right Heinrich out of 50 or so.
Yes. I am exagerating.
Or is that what one has to pay money for.?
If you don't wish to tell it all again, can you direct me to the past archive and I will look it up again.
Thanks for your time.
Jo
Hello,
You are on the right track, but if you have a very common name that
site may not help you very much. What is the name you are looking for? and
at which site?
Here are some directions I had sent to someone which may clarify
things for you--or maybe only make you more confused!
You can go to this website which allows you to search for persons who
got permission to emigrate from 3 places: Hannover, Osnabruck, and
Wolfbuttel.
http://app.staatsarchive.niedersachsen.de/findbuch/
On that page, if you want Hannover, it is already situated on the right
choice, so click on Abschicken. (Or click on it and change it to Osnabruck
or Wolfbuttel.) Then, on the next page go to Index. Next, fill in the box
with the surname of the person and choose Nach personen. Then click on
suche. It will give the names of all the emigrants by that name.
If you are in the Hannover by clicking a name it will include the town
or origin. The Osnabruck search is a little tougher. See the number(s) on
the end of the line with the names. Take down the number and go back to the
previous page and click on Gliederung. That will give you the names of the
towns in the Osnabruck database. The numbers each one covers start with 1
and get progressively larger as you get to the bottom of the list on that
site. Logically, if you find the numbers pertaining to a certain village,
it may tell you where that person emigrated from. You can order the records
based on the code matching that person by email. The email addresses for
the 3 areas (Osnabruck, Hannover, and Wolfbuttel) can be found here:
http://www.staatsarchive.niedersachsen.de/home/
Other people on this list (like Fred) have ordered some records and maybe
they can tell you how that part works and what or how you pay. If you
choose not to write to them, you might at least get some idea where you
might look to locate the birthplace of your ancestors.
What name are you searching for?
Good luck,
Barbara Stewart
Just for the record, I wrote email ordering x number of files to be
copied to film. I've not yet heard a response. Maybe it takes them a
while to figure out how much it'll cost as they said they would quote
this in advance. I did not ask for this and am willing to pay
whatever it costs. More later.
