I am new to this list and hope someone can help me with my research.
My interest lies in the town of T�tz, now Tuczno. My ancestor(Carl Frederick Edward OSTEN) was born here in 1848. He left with his family in 1872 and emigrated to New Zealand.
My question is what province of Prussia was T�tz located in?
Also it is believed that my ancestor served with the Prussian army. Was military service compulsory during this time?
