Surnames

Greetings - I'm new on the list and hope that some of you are able to read
and/or respond in English.

The surnames I'm researching are Hoffmann and Lenger (or Senger?)

The two surnames mentioned are grreat grandparents on my father's side. My
objective is two fold. First, to document vital records
(birth/marriage/death/etc. for my personal family records. Second, to
locate "cousins" in both Germany and America.

What I know: Hermann and Rahel (Rachel?) Lenger Hoffmann lived in
Pollenschin, West Prussia, Germany. I learned this from my grandparents'
marriage record in U.S.A. My grandmother (Hermann's and Rahel's daughter)
was Helena (Helene) Leona Hoffmann. I have undocumented records showing her
birthdate as 18 February 1871. Her obituary in 1920 indicates she emigrated
here about 1892, less than a year before she and my grandfather (Julius
Helkenn) married.

Helene's 1920 obituary (she sometimes went by Leona) mentioned that she had
two sisters living in Germany. Through a couple of letters, I know one
sister's name - Berta (or Bertha). I know Berta married an Emil Kratzke.

That is about the extent of my knowledge.

Is Karthaus (or Kartuzy or Zukowo) the appropriate place to do research?

Any suggestions you can give will be greatly appreciated.
