Surnames Justin,Schinner,Lauterbach

Greetings all! I have a long story here...
My first post to this list, I just joined a couple days ago.I do my research
mostly between my fall & spring or summer & fall school semesters. I work
full time days.
I have been researching my gr-gr-gr-grandfather Julius Frederich Justin Sr
b.1800?, his wife Maria Sabina Schinner, and their children C.W.,Emil, F.,
Julius (Frank or Frederich) Jr b.18 Dec 1837, his wife Louisa Lauterbach b.8
Aug 1839 d.3 Feb 1887 LaCrosse, Wisconsin,C,Clarrisa,Louis,Adolph, and Lena,
all born in Germany.
Julius Sr & family emmigrated Hesse-Darmstadt,or Hannover, or Saxony in
approximately 1855. Through several proven records they bought 160 acres of
land in LaCrosse, Wisconsin from the U.S. government in 1855, land patents
were issued in 1857. My parents still live on the property, I grew up there
in the original farmhouse which is still occupied. I have collected all the
possible U.S.censuses, I have church records, (have seen myself the
tombstones of Julius Jr & wife). This data, plus what got from my aunt, dad,
all are not clear as to exactly they came from in Germany. I checked several
places for other records, naturalization or citizenship papers without any
luck. I have heard that a brother of Julius's (Jr or Sr???) is the founder of

the Justin Boot Company in Texas. I have emailed their company an inquiry
without a reply.
I received information from my dads 2nd cousin I found out where her
Lauterbach relatives came from and I sent out 15 "I'm searching" letters to
Justins in Germany (from the Germany telephone book) around the same zip code

area 90000 about 2 or 3 years ago. One came back with possibilities from
Pentling. I have kept in contact until this past summer when I moved. I have
emailed him a couple times, but I'm not sure if he is still receiving my
emails . Last spring/summer just before I moved he sent me data he collected
on 6 different Justins who emigrated Germany. On his list with their names
was also age, occupation, land origin, departure date, shipsname, city arrived,

and date arrived. Two of these have close ages and cities to the information
I have myself. I have looked at one URL I was given for shipsnames and none
of the ones I wanted to view was there. Can anyone give me an address for
ships & passengers lists please? Shoul I maybe go to my area Family History
Center to see if they could guide me, it has been a few years since I
visited there.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Hi,
If you have the dates of immigration ships, you are fortunate. However,
do remember that OFTEN ship lists do not list the exact city of origin--they
may say Germany--or Hannover, or whatever.
You have probably tried www.istg.rootsweb.com. There is a search place
to enter the name, but also you can look up ships by name and year, etc.
Also, www.olivetreegenealogy.com/ is another. Many larger city public
libraries have passenger lists on microfilm, also the Germans to America
volumes, Passenger List Index by Filby, and other books. If you are in a
city where the National Archives are kept, they have many (but not all) ship
lists. You can also order any passenger lists from the LDS centers and view
them there. Have fun!

Also, Pentling is in Bavaria--rather far from Darmstadt. The LDS does have
the film for Darmstadt church records--and many other records. Check
www.familysearch.org and go Search for Ancestors, then to the Family
History Library Catalog.

Dave,
I went to the public library today and checked in the Germans to America
books and found this in 1855. I don't think it matches what you want, but
here it is:

Johan Justin Age 16, (from HS-probably means Hessian) Ship H.A. Miller
(Havre to NY) Apr 20, 1855

William Justin age 25 (from BD -Baden?) Ship Admiral (Havre to NY)
Dec. 20, 1854

Eliz. Justin Age 40 (from HS) Ship F A Paliner (Havre to NY) Apr 17, 1855

There were other Justins in earlier volumes. However, there are many
German immigrants not in the Germans to America books (like mine!)
