Would appreciate any help on the following surnames especially the name
ZAELKE as this spelling is very rare. I know there was a large family of
ZAELKEs that were in Potsdam, but I cannot find any records of them.
I have a CARL FRITSCHE who was born January/April 1820 who married a JOHANNA
ZAELKE who was born August/November 1821. They had three boys. They were:
CHARLES EDWARD FRITSCHE born September 29, 1846,
WILHELM ARTHUR FRITSCHE born August/October 1847, and
GUSTAV EDWARD FRITSCHE born June 16, 1850.
In April 1858 they immigrated to America via Hamburg and stated that they
were from Potsdam. I have found that a family of Zaelkes lived in Potsdam.
The information about the Potsdam Zaelkes came from Zaelkes living in
America, but they have no other facts.
Any information about this family would be most appreciated. I have 500 names
for the family after they settled in St. Louis Missouri in the United States
and would be glad to share.
Thanks
John Fritsche
