I have only just learned of this list. I am searching for information on my
gr,gr,grandfather John (Johann?) Adam Scheller and his wife Dorothea Eva
Goring. Their oldest son, George Adam Scheller (my great grandfather) in the
1880 U.S. Census said their birthplace was Lippe, Germany. John Adam reported
on all official documents I have located that he was from the Kingdom of
Bavaria. All of these document listed him as Adam Scheller and all his
signatures were Adam Scheller.
Adam was born April 28, 1814 and Dorothea was born November 10, 1825. Adam
died December 26, 1888 in New York City, NY, USA. Dorothea died December 12,
1875 also in New York City. Both were Lutheran and were buried in the
Lutheran Cemetery, Middle Village, NY. Adam became a citizen of the U.S. October
21, 1852 in New York, NY.
Dorothea emigrated drom "Deutschland" on the ship Howard which departed from
Hamburg, Germany and arrived in New York City on May 28, 1847. On the same
ship there were two passengers - George Goring and Adam Schille. I do not
know if George was related to Dorothea nor do I know if Adam Schille was the
same as Adam Scheller and the name mispelled on the passenger list.
I do not know if Adam and Dorothea were married in Germany or the United
States. They had five children - George Adam born in 1849, Amelia born in 1851,
Heinrich born in 1854, Margaret born in 1860 and Mary born in 1863.
If someone could give me some suggestions on how to get more information on
either or both Adam and Dorothea I would be very appreciative.
Warmest personal regards,
Ray Scheller
