I've gathered a fair amount of information o the Quiring surname since my
mother's surname was Quiring. I have to admit that it's a hard surname to
research, relative to other surnames I've worked on. It seems like Quirings
pop up all over and don't have a lot of common roots. Their migration from
Prussia was more haphazard than planned or consistent.
We've traced our family line back to Peter Quiring (b. about 1806) and
Elizabeth Unruh (b. about 1811) in the Molotschna Colony. Everything seems
to vaporize or at least become mostly guesswork beyond that. I've read and
re-read the Census lists that are available on the Manitoba MHS site and
found little that can be considered a reliable thread for this particular
surname.
