Looking for the meaning and source of the surname Mackeben. I was told the
meaing of the name is to make even. Also their are rumors that the surname
is from Scotland , such as McCabe. Did the Scottish people inhabit the area
of Rehburg near Steinhuder Meer. The Mackeben surname is rare and it
appears the roots lead to Rehburg. The Mackeben immigrants to America all
came from Rehburg. Often the spelling in America was changed to Mackaben or
MacKaben. I know that "mac" means son of but am not sure if this applies to
the Mackeben name.
